The Province of Rieti is located in the centre of Italy along Via Salaria around 90 km. from Rome; it was created in 1927 and has a population of around 150.000 inhabitants distributed in 73 little municipalities.Its territory includes most of the ancient Sabina, the Cicolano area, where the ancient people of the Equi lived, and the upper Tronto valley, where strong is the influx of the ancient people of the Piceni.The geomorphology of the territory is very articulated. In the West, the river Tiber is the natural border, in the East, the landscape gradually changes: first there are beautiful hills with very old olive trees, from which the famous extra virgin olive oil comes, then there is the Rieti valley, between high mountains.

Among these mountains the highest is Terminillo, a very well known skiing resort. The Terminillo North Slope, rich in woods, descends all the way down to the beautiful Leonessa plateau.Then the region becomes more and more harsh, with narrow valleys, water basins and imposing mountains. This is a still pure landscape, rich in natural parks, characterised by the Velino valley that reaches the Tronto valley where the following towns are: the Angevin Cittaducale, Amatrice, native land of the famous spaghetti and Accumoli.At the end of the 40’ of the last century, the Salto and Turano River, tributaries of the Velino River, were blocked to create two artificial lakes to produce of electric power.

Particularly in energetic field the Province is involved in Promotion of the renewable sources and the energy saving in accordance with the lines of foreseen address and coordination expected by the Regional Energy Piano;Diffusion of information, knowledge and opportunity on matters of renewable sources of energy and on the rational use of the energy in the productive and civil sectors;Issue of the Unique Authorization related to the D.Lgs. n.387 of 29/12/2003 for the realization of the systems fed by renewable sources and the connected works and the essential  infrastructures to the building and the exercise of the same ones;Concession of contributions related to articles 8,10 and 13 of the L.10 of 9/1/1991  for the support to the use of the renewable sources of energy in the buildings for the industrial reduction of the consumptions in the industrialist sectors, in the handicrafts and in the service industry and to stimulate the energy production in the agricultural sector
